Chakra Meditation:
A Comprehensive Guide
Everything in the Universe is made up of energy. And that includes us! We’re made up of a vital life force which ancient cultures referred to as Chakras.
Since ancient times, keeping your Chakras opened, balanced and aligned has been seen as critical to good health and wellbeing. And one of the best ways to do this is with Chakra Meditation…
Chakra Meditation is a type of meditation that unblocks, balances and aligns the seven Chakras within the Chakra System, to improve physical, emotional and spiritual health and wellbeing. This Chakra healing is done using positive intention, visualisation, breathing and mantras.
So, before we go too much further, let’s get clear on what we’re talking about here. What are these Chakras? Well, read on to find out!
What are Chakras?
Chakras are centres of energy that run throughout your body, from the base of your spine to the crown of your head.
Chakra is an old Sanskrit word which translates as wheel or disc. Think of Chakras as a spinning vortex of energy that can’t be seen but can be felt and sensed.
Chakras are an important concept in yoga, meditation and Ayurveda. Understanding them can be a powerful way to improve your emotional, physical and spiritual health and vitality. Unblocking and clearing your Chakras can create a huge shift in your energy – and that energy shift can change your life.
“When you change your energy, you change your life.”
The Chakra system contains seven main Chakras, each with their own specific function. Here’s an overview of each of the seven Chakras…
1. Root Chakra (Muladhara)
Color: Red
Mantra: LAM
Symbol: Lotus Flower
Element: Earth
Your Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine / pelvic floor. It’s associated with your fundamental need for security, safety, shelter and stability. It’s also important for the health and vitality of your physical body. Your Root Chakra’s energetic function is to help you create a sense of groundedness and inner stability.
2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)
Color: Orange
Mantra: VAM
Symbol: Flower and Moon
Element: Water
Your Sacral Chakra is located in your lower abdomen below your naval. It’s associated with your creativity, imagination, feelings, sexuality and sensuality. Your Sacral Chakra’s energetic function is to help you regulate your emotions and desires, so that you’re not driven by them.
3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
Color: Yellow
Mantra: RAM
Symbol: Ten Petal Flower
Element: Fire
Your Solar Plexus Chakra is located above your naval in the upper part of your belly. It’s associated with your power, will, strength, courage and confidence. It’s also related to your gut and digestion. Your Solar Plexus Chakra’s energetic function is to help you develop your personal power. It helps build confidence and strength to create the life you desire, and to let go of what doesn’t serve you.
4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)
Color: Green
Mantra: YAM
Symbol: Six-Pointed Star and Twelve Petal Flower
Element: Air
Your Heart Chakra is in the center of your chest (in the center rather than the location of your actual heart). It’s associated with love, resilience, compassion and generosity of spirit and is the seat of your soul. Your Heart Chakra’s energetic function is to help you tap into unconditional love – both of yourself and others.
5. Throat Chakra (Visshuddha)
Color: Light Blue
Mantra: HAM
Symbol: Sixteen Petal Flower
Element: Sound
Your Throat Chakra is located in your throat, near the thyroid glands. It’s associated with communication, self-expression and speaking your truth. Your Throat Chakra’s energetic function is to help you live an authentic life, find self-expression and creativity.
6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
Color: Indigo
Mantra: SHAM
Symbol: A Lotus Flower and a Triangle
Element: Light
Your Third Eye Chakra is in the center of your forehead, above the junction of your eyebrows. It’s your gateway to higher consciousness. It’s associated with insight, intuition and spiritual guidance, and allows you to see yourself and beyond yourself. Your Third Eye Chakra’s energetic function is to help you know yourself emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
Color: Purple
Mantra: OM
Symbol: Circle with One Thousand Petals
Element: Thought
Your Crown Chakra is located on the top of your head. It’s associated with your connection to Spirit, universal consciousness, enlightenment and wisdom. You can think of it as your most direct connection to divine oneness. Your Crown Chakra’s energetic function is to support you to live a more enlightened life. It helps you understand and embrace your connection to everything.

Blocked or Imbalanced Chakras
We want the flow of energy to move constantly and easily throughout the whole of our Chakra System. But sometimes our Chakras can become blocked, closed or imbalanced.
When one of our Chakra’s becomes blocked, the energy stops flowing there and instead flows to the other Chakras. As a result, you get one (or more) Chakras without enough energy and others with too much energy, and so in effect they become hyper-active.
Both a lack of energy flow and too much energy flow to any one Chakra is not good for our health and wellbeing. So, we want the whole of our Chakra System to be open, balanced and aligned. And one of the best ways of doing this is with Chakra Meditation.
Energy expert, Jeffrey Allen, teaches you how to clear your chakra energy in his flagship program, Duality. He guides you through meditations to create resonance and harmony in your chakra centers so you can quickly eliminate limiting beliefs, resistance, and struggle from your life.
Jeffrey has a free masterclass, which you can watch here.
How to do Chakra Meditation
Chakra Meditation can be done by meditating on one Chakra at a time. Or it can be done by meditating on the whole Chakra System with the intention of unblocking, balancing and aligning all seven Chakras in the system.
As your Chakras are part of an inter-connected system it’s best to start by meditating on all of them to bring them into balance.
Once you’ve been practicing for a while, you’ll start to get more attuned to specific Chakras. You’ll then begin to intuitively know that a specific Chakra needs your attention. When you get to this point you can move on to meditations for individual Chakras but don’t rush this. Enjoy the journey!
Meditation to Open and Balance all your Chakras
In this meditation you’ll open, balance and align all of your Chakras. Read through the whole of the meditation guide below before you start this chakra balancing.
What we’ll be doing is taking our attention to each Chakra in turn. We’ll see or sense the colour associated with that Chakra along with a spinning wheel of energy. We’ll imagine the Chakra as healed and balanced, and then move on to the next Chakra.
So, if you’re ready, let’s get started…
This is a special time for you, so find a peaceful and quiet place where you won’t be disturbed for about half an hour.
Sit on the floor with your legs crossed in front of you. Your spine is straight but not rigid. Sit on a cushion if this position is uncomfortable for you. Place your hands on your knees and relax.
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in, hold for a brief moment and exhale. Repeat two more times. Tense your whole body as tight as you can. Hold for a count of five then release. Repeat two more times.
Bring your attention to your Root Chakra which is situated at the base of your spine at the tailbone. Breath into your Root Chakra. Imagine it’s glowing Red and picture energy flowing into and through it. Imagine a wheel of energy spinning clock-wise. Watch and observe as your breath feeds the flow of the wheel, and the wheel becomes brighter and more vivid. Send the intention that with each breath the flow of energy strengthens, expands and cleanses your Chakra. Your root Chakra is now healed and balanced.
When you feel ready, move your attention to your Sacral Chakra which is located just below your naval. Breath into your Sacral Chakra and see it glow Orange. Imagine a wheel of energy spinning. Notice how the wheel becomes brighter the more you breath energy into this Chakra. With each breath, notice that your Sacral Chakra becomes more healed, balanced and aligned with the whole of your system. Continue to send energy and healing to your Sacral Chakra until your intuition tells you that you’re ready to move to the next Chakra.
Bring your attention to your Solar Plexus Chakra which is situated above your naval in the upper part of your belly. Breath into your Solar Plexus Chakra and see it glow Yellow. See or sense a wheel of energy spinning clock-wise. Observe as the wheel becomes brighter and more vivid with each breath you take. Feel your Solar Plexus Chakra becoming more balanced, healed and aligned with the energy flow of your whole system. When you feel ready, move on to the next Chakra.
See or sense your Heart Chakra located in the center of your chest. Breath into your Heart Chakra and see it glow Green as it connects with source energy. Imagine a wheel of energy spinning clock-wise. Watch and observe as your breath feeds the flow of the wheel. The wheel becomes a brighter and more vivid Green color. With each breath, notice that your Heart Chakra becomes more healed, balanced and aligned with the whole of your system. Send the intention that with each breath the flow of energy strengthens, expands and cleanses your Chakra. Your Heart Chakra glows bright Green and is now healed, balanced and aligned.
When you feel ready, bring your attention to your Throat Chakra at the center of your throat. See or sense it glow Light Blue as a wheel of energy spins clock-wise. With each breath you take, your Throat Chakra glows brighter and becomes more healed, balanced and aligned with the whole of your system. Send the intention that with each breath the flow of energy strengthens, expands and cleanses your Chakra. Your Throat Chakra is now healed, balanced and aligned. When your intuition tells you that you’re ready, move on to the next Chakra.
Bring your attention to your Third Eye Chakra situated at the center of your forehead, just above the junction of your eyebrows. Breath into your Third Eye Chakra and see it glow Indigo as it connects with source energy. See or sense a wheel of energy spinning clock-wise. Notice that it becomes brighter and more vivid in color as your Third Eye Chakra becomes healed, balanced and aligned with the whole of your system. When you feel ready move on to the next and final Chakra.
You now become aware of your Crown Chakra located on the top of your head. Imagine it’s glowing Purple and picture energy flowing into and through it as it connects to infinite Source energy. Imagine a wheel of energy spinning clock-wise. Watch and observe as your breath feeds the flow of the wheel. The wheel becomes a brighter and more vivid Purple color as you are connected to the pure love of the Universe. Your Crown Chakra is now healed, balanced and aligned with the whole of your system.
You feel energy flow freely throughout the whole of your system now as your body is fully balanced and aligned. You feel rejuvenated, healed and enlightened. Sit with this positive feeling for as long as you wish. When you feel ready, come back into the room and become aware of your body. Open your eyes and go on with your day, knowing that you are balanced and connected to the Love of the Universe.

Chakra Meditation: Final Thoughts
The notion of Chakras as centres of energy in the body was new for me when I started this journey to explore manifestation.
While the idea was new (and definitely a bit out there for me!) it’s something that’s had a huge impact on my life and my ability to manifest.
The effectiveness of your manifestations really does come down to the energy you put out into the Universe. So, it makes sense that clearing up, unblocking and balancing your Chakras is going to help you manifest much more easily and effectively.
“The Universe doesn’t hear what you are saying, it only feels the vibration of what you are offering.”
So, if you’re serious about manifestation, I encourage you to give Chakra Meditation a go!
To your best life,
